Festival Values

An urban, modern event.

Three fundamental values define the Festival de la Cité Lausanne:

The Festival de la Cité Lausanne offers a range of uniquely diverse free events, including theatre, danse and performance art, classical music, jazz and contemporary sounds, shows for young audiences, circus art, litterature, visual and fine arts, architecture projects and so on. A contemporary and urban event, it starts a dialogue between the city, its people and visitors, and promotes art in the city, on-location projects, and more generally the interaction between art, public space, and society. Though it, the liveliness of contemporary, living art is set at the very core of the city's heritage.

Breaking away from the social, spacial and aesthetic limits that are imposed by a specific location or a fee, people come together with art and culture. Welcome to an off-the-wall festival with a top-notch lineup and a friendly, sociable spirit!

Artistic Vision

The Festival de la Cité Lausanne has concocted an intense programme, both accessible and edgy, which will include elements of surprise for most of its very wide audiences. Quality and  originality are key words in the line-up, putting together our favourites of the moment and creations, artistic encounters, multidisciplinary projects and carte blanche events with a focus on on-location performances interacting with public space, whether it be urban, natural, or social in nature.

The Festival strives to puts itself into question by initiating new projects at every new edition, by helping new ideas materialise, by bringing about an element of surprise, by doing things better in a different way. Collaborations with the Festival's partnerships are particularly welcome.

A melting pot of diverse forms of expressions advocating open-mindedness, the programme provides a platform between young talents and experienced artists, local and international performers, all of which are professionals.
